The Story of Smith9th
Smith9th began at home, long before it became a brand.
Like most parents, we spent years dressing our own children for school mornings, family dinners, and the kind of everyday moments that somehow still felt special. But we kept running into the same problem — clothes that looked polished never felt comfortable, and clothes that felt comfortable never quite looked put-together. Our kids wanted to move, play, and be themselves, while we wanted them to feel confident and well-dressed, whether it was a regular Tuesday or a family photo we'd look back on for years.
So one evening, sitting at our kitchen table surrounded by half-finished sketches and fabric swatches, we asked ourselves a simple question: why should parents have to choose between comfort and elegance for their children? We couldn't find the answer in stores, so we decided to create it ourselves.
“We simply wanted our children to feel as good as they looked — and when we couldn't find that anywhere else, we decided to make it ourselves.”
What started as a handful of designs made for our own kids slowly turned into something bigger. Friends and family began asking where we found such beautifully made, effortlessly wearable pieces — and when we explained we'd made them ourselves, encouragement to share it with other families quickly followed. That encouragement became Smith9th.
From the very beginning, every design has stayed true to that first kitchen-table promise: soft, breathable fabrics; timeless silhouettes; and details thoughtful enough for the moments that matter, yet practical enough for real childhood. We still design the way we did back then — imagining our own children wearing each piece, running through a park, sitting still for a portrait, or curling up on the couch after a long day.
Today, Smith9th is worn by families far beyond our own, but the heart behind it hasn't changed. We're still two parents who simply wanted better for our kids — and who believe every family deserves clothing that feels as good as it looks.
